The European Union supports various BHC projects in the field of criminal justice, equality and protection from gender-based violence through its Justice and Rights, Equality and Citizenship programmes. Together with the UNHCR, the European Union ranks among the largest public donors to BHC.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN agency that coordinates global action on international refugee protection and refugee resolution. UNHCR has supported the activities of the BHC’s Refugee and Migrant Legal Protection Programme since 1994.

The Active Citizens Bulgaria Fund is a support mechanism for NGOs under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area. A key focus of support is strengthening the capacity of civil society. Funding for the Fund is provided by the donor countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The Fund supports BHC in the area of prison reform in Bulgaria.

Open Society Foundations has provided general institutional support for BHC’s programs since 1997. Open Society Foundations is one of the largest private donors in the world, working in 120 countries with a focus on democratic governance and human rights.

The Oak Foundation is a Geneva-based international foundation supporting civil society through activities targeting vulnerable groups and addressing global social and environmental issues. She is active in environmental protection, the fight against homelessness, the protection of human rights, children’s rights, women’s rights and equal access to education. Provides general institutional support to BHC since 2009.

UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund, which works in 190 countries and territories to defend children’s rights. Since 2018, UNICEF has supported BHC’s activities in the field of unaccompanied migrant children.
