The EU extended the deadline for the temporary protection of refugees from Ukraine until March 4, 2024.

Regarding the numerous inquiries about the extension of the temporary protection period for war-displaced individuals from Ukraine, BHK announces that as early as October 14, 2022, during a meeting of the Council of Justice and Home Affairs (CEU, JHA Meeting 3899, October 13 and 14, 2022), [1]a decision has been made to automatically extend the period of temporary protection for an additional year until March 4, 2024. The EU Council recommends that member states organize ways to gather and update information about individuals under temporary protection residing within their territory.

BHK urges the interim government to promptly make a decision to announce the extension of the period of temporary protection until March 4, 2024, in accordance with the decision of the EU Council based on Article 2, paragraph 2 of the Asylum and Refugees Act.

In its decision, the government must also determine the procedure for renewing the registration cards of individuals granted temporary protection and whether this will be done by extending the validity period or by reissuing the cards.
