On 16 December a police officer from the Plovdiv Regional Department of the Interior shot a man in the head. The police officer was working in the alarm-guarding sector. The wounded man has been hospitalized in the University Hospital in a critical condition. The police claim that the man's identity has not been established. Doctors have stated that the man's condition is critical. He was operated immediately after admission, but his situation is still not stable. The policeman's weapon has been confiscated, and the military prosecutor's office in Plovdiv has initiated preliminary proceedings to clarify how the incident occurred. A little after 4 a.m. on 16 December a police patrol from the alarm-guarding
sector spotted three men on bicycles. When the police tried to stop them,
they reportedly jumped off their bicycles and ran away. According to the
official police version, one of the sergeants fired several warning shots
in the air and started chasing them. He ran into one of the three men
who was reportedly holding a knife in his hand. The sergeant then shot
him in the head. This is the second case when the police shoots a civilian
in the head. On 27 March a 24-year-old man was killed by a policeman during
a chase. The man has reportedly produced a knife against the policemen
and they shot him. |
