Twelve sheltered houses for people with developmental disabilities will be built in the framework of a joint project of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Beautiful Bulgaria Project. They will be built in the cities of Karlovo, Nova Zagora, Burgas, Elhovo, Ruse, Vidin, Veliko Turnovo and Berkovitsa; Stara Zagora and Bansko will have two houses each.

The aim is to take people with disabilitites out of social institutions and help them live in a near-family environment. Up to 10 people will live in one house, with one to two people per bedroom. The houses will have their own living room, kitchen and yard. The houses will be staffed by a psychologist, a nurse and a social worker.

The municipalities and NGOs are partners in the project. The cost of the sheltered houses is 1 388 006 BGL.
