Supreme Administrative Court invalidates DEN TV closure decision |
The Supreme Administrative Court overturned the decision of the Council on Electronic Media (CEM), which had revoked the registration of Den Television. In November 2003 CEM stopped the broadcasting of the television's programmes as a punitive measure for Nick Stein's show "From Telephone to Microphone" which was said to incite ethnic intolerance. The owners of Den TV appealed the measure. In the meantime the programme moved to SKAT TV. Den TV stopped its broadcasts temporarily on November 10, 2003; afterwards
CEM decided to stop the implementation of the decision until - and if
- it was confirmed by the Supreme Administrative Court. CEM can appeal
the court decision in a 14-day period; this is unlikely, since recently
CEM chairman Raycho Raykov said that he hoped the court would invalidate
the decision. |
