Over 200 policemen from 14 towns with compact Roma population have been trained over the last three years in Romanes. They are regional inspectors and patrolling police officers from the Interior Ministry, who are being trained in the framework of the project "Police Work with Ethnic Minorities". It is sponsored by the Department of Foreign and International Development, the British Know How Fund, and the British Conflict Prevention Fund. The police officers are trained in the course of several months at the
Interior Ministry Academy in Sofia. Part of the training is carried out
in the Roma neighbourhoods, where the police officers patrol, meet with
representatives of the community, visit markets, schools and community
centers. |
