The integration of minorities in education is scheduled to be complete by the year 2009. This is provided in a Ministry of Education strategy for children from other than Bulgarian ethnic groups. The primary goal of the strategy will be the gradual closure of 105 Roma kindergartens and schools. Roma children will be enrolled in daycare centres attended by ethnic Bulgarian children. All-Roma schools will continue to exist up to the 4th grade, after which the children will be moved to mixed classes. The schools in the Roma neighbourhoods of Stolipinovo (Plovdiv) and Faculteta (Sofia) will continue to exist, but the children will be integrated by means of extracurricular activities. |
