28 mil leva to be spent on integration of Roma

28 mil. leva will be spent on integration of Roma from the state budget for support of projects for development of the Roma community. This was announced by Minister without Portfolio Filiz Hjusmenova at the seminar "Interethnic Tolerance - Problems of Development". By the end of the year a directorate will be established at the Council of Ministers to assist the National Council on Ethnic and Demographic Affairs (NCEDI).

The government has given up its stated intention of setting up a State Agency for Minorities. According to its programme, the agency was supposed to start working in 2002. Instead, the Directorate will be established by the end of 2003 at NCEDI. It is also envisaged that NCEDI will be given more powers.
