By the end of 2002 the residents of the Home for Mentally Ill Adults in the village of Dragash Voyvoda, near Bulgaria's Northern town of Nikopol, will be moved to another home, reported the press centre of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy (MLSP) yesterday. The information was released by Nikolay Angelov, head of the the National Social Assistance Department at the MLSP.

The location of the new home will be in the region of Montana, North-West Bulgaria.

The bad material conditions in which the residents of Dragash Voyvoda currently live are the reason for the moving of the home to another location. MLSP experts have inspected the place and have established that the premises cannot be renovated. The local administration has revealed that new buildings will be erected on the spot of the social home for mentally ill adults, which will be used for social purposes.

A total of 147 men with severe mental disabilities are living in Dragash Voyvoda at present. On 25 July 2002 25 residents from the Sanadinovo home, near Pleven, were moved to the village of Kachulka, near Sliven. The reason in this case were also the bad sanitary conditions in which the women were living.
