All 92 clients from the home for mentally retarded women in Sanadinovo will be moved out of the home by 1 July 2002, announced deputy prime minister and minister of labour and social policy Lidya Shuleva at a press briefing today.

On 9 May 2002 a special commission consisting of experts from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Regional Health Centre of Pleven, the Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute of Pleven and a psychiatrist visited the home in Sanadinovo. They inspected the building, the living conditions, the care offered in the home and evaluated the condition of the women accommodated there according to their age and health status. According to the Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute, the extremely bad state of the facilities render maintenance of the necessary hygiene and epidemiological regime impossible. It also entails a high potential risk for the health and lives of the clinets.

Twenty-four of the women will be sent for active treatment under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The others will be sent to social homes in the network of the MLSP with appropriate living conditions.
