National Security Department officer threatens taxi driver with gun

SOFIA, 26 July 2001 - Latin Latinchev, a 24-year-old National Security Department officer, was beaten by about a dozen taxi drivers after having threatened a taxi driver with his gun. The NSP officer was drunk at the time of the incident. >

The incident occured at 3:50 a.m. near the Ovcha Kupel residential area after a quarrel broke out between the two men. The taxi driver Asen Todorov claims that Latinchev allegedly put his gun to the driver's head, after which he fell asleep. Minutes later, about a dozen taxi drivers arrived at the scene of the incident and beat Sedefchov, taking his gun and two chargers.

The beating was intercepted by three police units who arrived shortly afterwards. According to press reports, one taxi driver has complained of being hit by a police officer.
