SLIVEN, 23 July 2001 - The 31-year-old Rom Todor Todorov was shot by an unidentified perpetrator on 18 July near Sliven while attempting to steal almonds from a private orchard, reports the 24 Chassa daily.

Todorov was shot in the region of the groin with pellets. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The newspaper also reports that nobody has been detained in connection with the incident so far, but the police suspect land owners from the region.
