Conscript shot by military policeman

DOBRICH, 22 July 2001 - A military police officer is reported to have shot and killed a runaway conscript in the village of Stefanovo near Dobrich at around 11 a.m. on 22 July, reports the 24 Chassa daily, quoting eyewitness accounts.

The victim is 21-year-old Sevgin Asan. The army conscript was sought by military police after having run away from his army unit in Elhovo some ten days earlier.

On 22 July at around 11 a.m. Sevgin was with friends in the centre of Stefanovo, when a car with three military policemen spotted him. After a short chase, Sevgin got out of his car and started running. One of the officers produced 4-5 shots wounding him fatally in the chest.
