To the Supreme Judicial Council

I wish to express deep indignation at the appointment by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of a new Head of the Sofia City Court. This appointment was illegitimate enough to question the legitimacy of SJC itself.

I wish to express deep concern over SJC's Parliament address which demonstrates regret with having no authority to affect magistrates' decisions on trials of major public interest, i.e. an overt ambition to acquire such authority.

The judiciary system independence is of vital importance to the rule of law. No rule of law means no human rights.

I support the Bulgarian Judges Association appeal to dissolve SJC. I would like to express my strong empathy with the judges who are deeply frustrated by the pressing need of independent and proper management of the judiciary system to which they have dedicated their lives and beliefs.

Please follow the honourable example of your colleagues who have already resigned. Leaving this morally bankrupt institution would be an act of decency which would suppress SJC's anti-constitutional spirit and which would no longer provide legitimacy to this council by the presence of respectable magistrates.

I demand your resignation because you are violating my fundamental right to independent and fair trial and because you are discrediting my rule-of-law state.
