Call of The Parliamentarians of Europe to the authorities of Myanmar and Europe to protect The Rohingyas

|

One of the largest stateless people of the world, regularly targeted by Buddhist nationalists, discriminated against for decades, today the Muslim Rohingyas of Myanmar are the victims of violent abuses by the army, which the UN High Commission for Human Rights classifies as “seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing”[1]

Therefore, there are more than 300,000[2] children, women and men who have fled to seek refuge, especially in Bangladesh.

As Elie Wiesel said: “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” In view of the inacceptable violence faced by the Rohingyas and the grave dangers that threaten them, we, parliamentarians of Europe, of various political trends but united by the same respect for fundamental human values, speak up to demand that the authorities of Myanmar and of Europe protect the Rohingya.

The state of Myanmar has the responsibility to protect its population.

We therefore call on the military and political authorities, particularly Aung San Suu Kyi, to immediately stop and put a stop to the violence faced by the Rohingyas, to organize humanitarian aide as well as the return of those who have fled violence and to respect and make respected the rights of all.

The European States and the European Union have the responsibility to act in order to ensure the protection of populations in danger, no matter where they are. We therefore call for pressure to be put on the authorities of Myanmar to protect the life and respect the rights of the Rohingya.
